Prerequisites for Rank-Testing:

 

1.  Students must have completed all reviews.

2.  Students must be able to spar an appropriate number of minutes for each rank.

 

Yellow Belt Test:

 

  1. Lead a group in a basic stretching routine.

  2. Articulate the logic of submission-fighting in two words.

  3. Summarize the state’s self-defense laws and give examples of “reasonable” vs. “excessive” force.

  4. Articulate the 5 ranges of fighting as they apply to an “opening-,” “middle-“ and “end-game.”

  5. Show 3 kinds of rolls.

  6. Show 3 kinds of blocks (open/closed).

  7. Show 3 kinds of falls.

  8. Show 5 common stand-up fighting positions.

  9. Show 10 common ground-fighting positions.

  10. Show 4 kinds of hand-holds for grappling.

 

Purple Belt Test:

 

  1. Show how to use Range against a Striker vs. a Grappler.

  2. Show basic application of hand-holds for pushing/pulling an opponent (setting up takedowns).

  3. Show how to safely charge/retreat.

  4. Show side-stepping, wall-rolling and re-direction footwork.

  5. Show to cross-face post against a charging attack.

  6. Show how to fall into an overhead-sweep position against charging takedown.

  7. Show 12 kinds of open-hand strikes.

  8. Show 10 kinds of open-close hand strikes.

  9. Show 10 kinds of kicks.

  10. Show how to in-step, stomp and position in a stand-up fight.

  11. Show 10 kinds of hand-hold/striking combinations.

  12. Give examples of how to feign and bait opponents in stand-up fighting.

 

Blue Belt Test:

 

  1. Demonstrate various kinds of elbow strikes.

  4. Demonstrate the following standing submissions:

    1. Rear Naked (with variations).

    2. Guillotine Choke (with variations).

    3. Front-Choke Hold.

    4. Collar Choke Hold.

    5. Arm-Triangle Choke.

    6. Aikido Arm/Wrist Lock.

  20. Demonstrate North-South maintenance tactics and escapes.

  21. Complete an MMA Externship under another Instructor (1-600 hrs).

 

Black Belt Test:

 

  1. Review entire curriculum with written criticisms (Externship included).

  2. Develop and document a new curriculum based on personal experience.

  3. Document specific improvements on sweeps, escapes, maintenance tactics, defenses, submission combination attempts and combination finishes based on personal experience.

  4. Explain how psych-warfare tactics can be employed in self-defense.

  5. Explain how situational-manipulation can be used to secure the Element of Surprise.

  6. Demonstrate advanced feigning tactics to promote confusion and deceit.

  7. Summarize basic tactics for working incognito.

  8. Demonstrate tactics for using 3 martial arts weapons of choice.

  9. Demonstrate tactics for using 3 common weapons of choice.

  10. Demonstrate at least 100 exotic submissions/finishing techniques.

  11. Demonstrate at least 10 crippling/incapacitation techniques.

  12. Summarize 5 techniques used in a life/death situation.

  13. Summarize similarities in military techniques.

  14. Demonstrate the Pumpkin Smash and related finishing techniques.

  15. Demonstrate tactics for fighting two opponents blocking an exit.

  16. Complete at least 10 closed-door matches.

  17. Complete a Standing Challenge of at least 6 participants (KUMITE).

  18. Receive graduation tattoos.

  19. Establish a school site, necessary equipment/insurance and curriculum.
